4-H Farm Program
Other important lessons are learned in the working 4-H Farm Program. Interacting with the animals teaches responsibility, consistency and a variety of work skills. The children work in teams and each commitment is about four months. There is a team for each type of animal:
- hogs
- chickens
- turkeys
- steers
- rabbits
- goats
Feeding,
bathing and grooming the animals must be done, as well as cleaning the
pens and sweeping and shoveling the stalls. The animals must be fed
every day. If a child cannot be there on time, he or she finds a
replacement because the animals have to eat. This program teaches
persistence, commitment and follow-through.
