Why Tug For Life?

The children at the Boys & Girls Harbor and in our society tug at our heart strings for help, support and awareness of the increasing problem and need for social and emotional wellness and dealing with family trauma. The Boys & Girls Harbor is here to protect children who are victims of abuse and neglect.  Boys & Girls Harbor provides a safe, healthy environment for the children, where they can live, learn and grow up to be healthy adults.

The Tug For Life event, created by the Boys & Girls Harbor, is an event aligned with Texas Education Agency’s, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The school educational fundraiser is the only one of its kind which aligns the messaging, education and resources to support the prevention of bullying, building and defining of character traits and establishing boundaries for the prevention of child abuse.

The Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model below, is an expansion and update of the Coordinated School Health (CSH) approach. The WSCC incorporates the components of CSH and the tenets of the ASCD’s* whole child approach to strengthen a unified and collaborative approach to learning and health. The WSCC model focuses its attention on the child, emphasizes a school-wide approach, and acknowledges learning, health, and the school as being a part and reflection of the local community.  https://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/wscc/

The Corporate and Municipality Tug for Life offers employers an opportunity to address social and emotional employee wellness by removing the intimidation of being identified as an individual having a need for social and emotional education or help with dealing with family trauma.  Tug for Life wraps the education around a corporate charity event.  All corporations encourage charitable giving by their employees in dollars and/or employee volunteer time.

The Boys & Girls Harbor Tug for Life provides the team building event to address social and emotional education and raise funds for children in our communities who are neglected and abused.
